Crazy Day

After I dropped Jack off at school, I went to go do some errands. As I crossed over the intersection by his school, I was nearly hit by a police car who was flying down the road, but he had no siren or lights on. By the time I pulled up to the light, I noticed two police cars to the left of me in the turn lane, two police cars behind a red car in front of me (also in the turn lane), and another 3 police cars in the lane to the right of me that goes straight. I did not have a good feeling about this but because the 3 police cars were to the right of me, I was blocked in. Of course when the light turned green, all 7 cruisers turned left, turned on their sirens and stopped once the red car stopped. I immediately looked to find another way out even if I had to drive over the medians, but because of where I was, I was blocked in by police cars. At this point, officers were jumping out of the cars with rifles, more police cars were coming from the other direction and surrounding this red car. The only thing I could do was duck and listen for gunfire. After what was probably only 2 minutes but felt like days, I looked up since I didn't hear anything and saw that everyone in the car was spread eagle on the ground with 4 rifles on each of the individuals. Although I remained calm while all of this was happening, once I left, I started shaking. It was very surreal at my first stop to go to the balloon store and order ballons for Jack's best friends' party on Sunday. But then I picked up Jack from school and we still went to Chick-Fil-A with his friend, Wes and they played and played. The sound of his laugh was even more sweet. There were a couple of older boys at the indoor playground who were more aggressive. When Jack came back to the table for a sip of lemonade, Jack told me that the boys were like "wolvie" (a rough-playing wolverine on Little Bear) and that "they wouldn't hurt me." Then he went back inside the playground, but before too long Jack and another boy were coming back out. The other boy was crying, and so I asked Jack what happened, and he said "that boy was pushing me, so I just did this" (he had his hands in a fist and made a T with his arms out to his side.) Whatever that move is, it was effective. I was encouraged to see Jack say he was sorry to the other little boy without any prompting from me. Then they both went back in to the playground. On our way home, Jack kept asking me to "check the numbers." He knows that rain turns to snow at 32, so he wanted me to keep checking the temperature on the rear mirror. He's been looking out the window waiting for snow and hoping that he will get to make snowballs and a snowman tomorrow.

Fishing at the Lake

It was a beautiful day yesterday, so we decided to go fishing at the lake. Because the last time we used a real hook and worms wasn't that enjoyable, we got Jack another fishing pole with no hooks and a lure fish. Jack loves it. He catches a fish every time! We stuck marshmallows on the end of the lure, and actually had fish strike it, but because there are no hooks, we didn't catch any but having a toddler occupied for 2 hours in one spot is pretty incredible.

Dinner at Drew and Eric's!

Jack idolizes Drew and Eric who were the ring bearers in our wedding. They were 2 and 4 then, and now almost 13 and 15. We had a fantastic dinner at their house with their mom, dad and grandmother. They have a trampoline in their backyard, and Jack kept asking Drew and Eric if they were finished. At one point, their mom, Corinne, said that it was too dark right now, but after the boys were finished with dinner a light would come on. Jack told Corinne that he had "jaguar eyes" and could see even though it was dark. :) As you can see, Jack LOVED jumping on the trampoline with the guys, and when we were leaving, they gave him a "racecar" (a peddle Kettcar) He's asked me if every day since then if he can go back over to their house.

All about Airplanes and Jets!

Jack loves airplanes and especially jets. He has quite a collection. These were his latest two airplanes - yes that is a Barbie airplane, but it was made in the 90's and nobody has an airplane as large as it is, and it has a working PA system. About once a week, Jack asks his friend, Wes, if he wants to come over and see jets at the air show.

Jack's Best Friend

Jack doesn't take naps anymore, but he didn't get much sleep with his vivid dreams and had a full day of running around which included soccer practice. After practice on our way home, he fell asleep and his best friend, Dutch joined him. Dutch now sleeps with Jack every night and even if we close the door to Jack's room, Dutch lies in front of the door and stays there all night. He is the greatest dog. When we went to see the pediatric allergy specialist, one of the many questions he asked was if Jack had any brothers and sisters. Jack answered before I did and said that he had two. The Doctor was trying to make conversation with Jack and asked him their names, and Jack said "Dutch and Cocoa." The Dr. then smiled and asked if his brothers and sister had two legs or four, and Jack said four. :)

Sleep Talker

We've discovered that Jack inherited my sleep talking gene. The other night he woke up and yelled, "Bad Dog, Cocoa!" Then he started to cry and told me that Cocoa just ate his pizza.

Soon, I will have to put bells on the door in case he also inherited my sleep walking gene. Fun things to look forward to!

The negotiator

Jack is learning the art of negotiation. When his friend, Aubrey, came over to play and her mommy told her that she had 5 more minutes, Jack said, "30 more minutes, right?" This goes well with his "one more time."
